JUPITER RESEARCH FOUNDATION
REACT Collaborators
Our group of collaborators had industrial and academic roots.
- The initial concept of the REACT program came about in 2018 during discussions with Dr. Vijay Swarup, VP, Research and Development, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, as to how we might work together to acquire oceanic CO2 data to be used with climate models to improve forecasting accuracy. An agreement was executed in the first half of 2019, funding was provided, and Phase l work commenced immediately.
- Schlumberger provided Wave Gliders for the REACT program. We were also co-developing future sensor technologies and they were represented on our Scientific Advisory Board.
- Penn State University (PSU) researchers joined us as major partners, and were represented on our Scientific Advisory Board. PSU researchers have an interest in collaborating with us on the prospective Marine Science and Technology Center, and other oceanic projects, including microplastics. They add significant capability in oceanic, atmospheric, and terrestrial climate research technology, staffing and infrastructure to our group. We planned to collaborate across their broad spectrum of resources.
- Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) has a long history of working with Jupiter. They provided extensive technical and operational support, as well as introductions to many individuals within their network to assist in various project challenges. MBARI started to develop the first version of their pCO2 sensor in the 1990's and it evolved into an autonomous sensor that we integrated with their help into some of our Wave Gliders. REACT Phase I Wave Glider sensor integration and calibration deployments were executed jointly at their Monterey Bay facility.
- NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratorium (PMEL) provided us with the latest version of their pCO2 sensor, supported Wave Glider integration efforts and were working with us to validate sensor data integrity for REACT Phase I.
-
Our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) was composed of some of the best and brightest in the climatological community. We were working together on the research strategy for REACT Phase ll.
